About the Student Theater Festival – Now in its 49th year!

The Student Theater Festival, in collaboration with Newtown Arts Company, is an opportunity for teens from throughout the region to come to the Playhouse to perform for each other, take master classes, and receive professional adjudication.

Top performances are selected at the end of Student Theater Festival to participate in a “Best of Fest” in which the students and the schools are able to showcase their talents for a special guest panel of professional theater artists as well as their friends and families.

2016’s “Best of Fest” competitors…
performed before a panel of Broadway judges including Christopher Durang, Jennifer Van Dyck, Alexander Fraser, and Will Hammerstein to win a cash prize for their theatre department.

Congratulations to 2016’s “Best of Fest” Winners:
Freehold High School for The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1st Place)
Vineland High School for Mary Poppins (2nd Place)
Mater Dei Prep for You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown (3rd Place)

And the other five incredible shows:
Pennsbury High School in The Other Room
Fair Lawn High School in Chaplin
Cedar Grove High School in The Odd Couple
Wilson High School in De Profundis
Mount Olive High School in Big Fish

Thank you to all directors, teachers, technical theatre artists, judges, and our families and friends!
